As applied to the situation between the Palestinians and Israel which is based on conflict, nationalism and security, the use of thelegal term of art "Apartheid" is simpy libelous. "Apartheid" requires the INTENT to institutionally discriminate based on "race." The Old South Africa was quite open about their intent to discriminate based on "race." In stark contrast,Israel's motivation to separate from Palestinians, both stated and actual, is based on security. The Palestinians have agreed, via their statements and actions, that they are, in fact, dangerous and a threat to Israel's security. At the same time, Jews and Arabs agree that they are the descendants of a common ancestor. "Apartheid" is libelous in this situation as it attributes racist intent where there is none. It has become another word robbed of its true meaning by the naive,Western apologists for the Palestinians who now just use it as a "power word" to trump debates about Israel when they have nothing factual to say.
