I believe in the need for a Jewish state. So strongly in fact that I moved to Israel to serve as a combat soldier in the IDF. However, when I arrived I got a crash course in what is really going on in the country. The extremist right wingers have taken control, and the moderates and left are not willing to stand up to them. Diaspora Jews have turned a blind eye to the injustice perpetrated daily by the Israeli government and security forces, defending actions that would be unconscionable if committed by any other country. I want so badly to be proud of my country, but instead I just feel shame. I just hope the extremists can be stopped before they destroy the Zionist dream forever.
