If you begin the discussion, as Mr Eldar does, assuming the the Israelis are cruel, wrong headed and illegal oppressors of Palestinians, then of course everything he says here follows. But an editorial should have at leasr a modicum of logical reasoning and balance. But Eldar makes the absurd assertion that insisting on no preconditions is a precondition itself. That is tenditious playing with words, not a logical argument. Each side is jockeying to enter the negotiations with an upper hand. What's wrong with that? The Palestinians know they are the weaker party, so they try to level the playing field with preconditions--essentially concessions before negotiating. The Israelis of course don't want that. Why is that so humilating?
