US/Israel needs 9 votes and no vetoes to sanction Iran. That is, 7 no votes or one veto will kill the resolution. I wonder if the nine votes are there? Will nine of these countries go along? Especially given the possibility of sanctions leading to war or severe economic problems? China - can veto - on record as NO France - can veto - on record as YES Russia - can veto - maybe NO UK - can veto - on record as YES US - can veto - on record as YES Austria - can Germany influence? Bosnia/Herzegovina - 40% Muslim Brazil- on record as NO Gabon - Lots of poverty - can be bought? Japan - Extremely unhappy with US Lebanon - Muslim Mexico - Drug wars - will want a lot from US Nigeria - oil rich Turkey - Muslim Uganda - lots of poverty - can be bought? So far, it looks like there are possibly six no votes and one veto that can kill the resolution. Who can US/Israel count on? What back room deals will the US have to make to avoid defeat?
