Correction: Muslim men may marry "people of the book" and it in the future muslim women may be able to do so as well. The only requirement for becoming muslim is saying the Shahada before witnesses. Out of curiosity, why marry someone based on an identity card? If I am going to marry someone and religion matters to me, wouldn't I make inquiries as to that person's faith and religious observation? I think it's the idea that some jews have a right to screen those they don't approve of through a formal process such as identity papers that strikes some as racist.
