What becomes a tired old saw is the following. Someone makes a report of antisemitism, with the response usually being "of course thats the pot calling the kettle black, Jews make awful comments towards muslims, and they are Semitic as well" The word "anti-semitism" has never , repeat "never" had anything to do with any group except Jews. The original coiner of the word, Wilhelm Marr was a world class Jew hater and pathological bigot. He was attempting to take Jew hatred out of its dirty gutter and make it something "scientific" and "respectable". In no way did he have "anti-Islam" on his mind or in his thinking. He was trying to score points with other world class Jew-haters, and make a name for himself that would go down in the history of Jew hating. This word has always, always been aimed at one group ---Jews. And paraphrasing Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, I think it is a particuarly tasty bit of irony that the name "Wilhelm Marr" today rests in almost complete obscurity---except among Jewish scholars!!!
