All of this land was not internationally recognized as Jordan's. One clear idea for taking them was that they or the greatest share of them be used as a bargaining chip in negotiations. The Khartoum conference with its three 'nos' eliminated that option. More principally Segev shows no feeling or understanding for Jewish history and the longings of the people of Israel when he suggests that we might have simply treated Jerusalem as if were not in any way part of our very being.
