If the “average age” of a given group of people is 13, that means that (roughly speaking) for every 14-year-old in the group there is a 12-year-old, for every 17-year-old a 9-year-old, etc. In other words, if the “average age at which a girl enters prostitution” were really 13, for every woman who started at 25 there would be someone who started at 1. Sounds ridiculous? That's what Haaretz just quoted as a scientific study. Professor John Jay submitted a report in 2008 "The Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children in New York City" and found that only 15% entered prostitution under the age of 13. That is hardly the average. The reality is that every non partisan scientific study has shown that the average age of entry into prostitution all over the world is 23-25 and child prostitution (under 16) amounts of less than 11-15%.(if you are counting under 18). Everything else is scaremongering, moral panic and crusading.
