Assad was not good for many in Syria. A lot of people supported the rebellion at first. But the history of US covert interventionism in 'regime change' and destablising established governments to put their puppet in charge is known. Considering that, as well as the resources to be had in this area, as well as the Israeli strategic plan ["A Strategy for Israel in the Nineteen Eighties"] which involved destablising all surrounding regimes into small, manageable [read: warring] vassal states makes this situation a bit different. The US is funding Al Qaeda rebels! That should say a lot. Something is definitely fishy!
