Like Ben Alofs I have a Palestinian friend who lives here in the U.S. Upon her death his grandmother left 5 acres of land to him and to his relatives living in Israel. Through her life the Israeli government would not permit grandmother to build on her land, not even a shed. A few years ago a neighboring Jewish village took 1/3 of my friend's land for sports purposes. Then the village wanted to extend a road so they took more land. Neither he nor his family received even one shekel for the land stolen from them. I was with this man when we went to see our member of Congress who was disturbed at what she was hearing. Sadly, she said, she could do nothing about the situation but would certainly keep it in mind. What Israel is doing reminds me of early days in the U.S. when Jews could not buy or rent in certain areas. As jews my parents fought this racism. I see no difference from what Israel is doing but in Israel the discrimination and racism is far worse and more extensive.
