Yes there is something grossly threatening about yet another group that mixes the fissile ingredients of religion and politics, terrorism and hatred. But it is unimaginable that since before the Palestinian municipal elections and before the Gaza exodus Israel in some form or another hasn't talked to, or made arrangements and reached accomodations with Hamas. That is realpolitik. Herzl knew it when in 1903 he pleaded with Russian Interior Minister von Plehwe to pressure Turkey to sell him land for Jewish settlement. Von Plehwe was implicated in the Kishinev pogrom. Zionist representatives dealt with the Nazis. We keep listing the 'nevers' without recognising that over time we have overcome every single one of them. Ultimately we will have to talk formally with Hamas and Hamas will have to talk formally with us. To pretend otherwise is to consign us all to 5 times what we've been through in the last half decade.
