Gideon Levy is great. The only point I would make is that I think that Israelis in general overstate the fear of charges of anti-semitism outside Israel. Jews live peacefully in many Western countries and the imaginery example is highly unlikely to happen. If it did, then the gives the charge of aniti-semitism would be accurate. But the memory of WW11 is fading - as it must - and those of us outside Israel are now paying increasing attention to the misery inflicted on the Palestinians by Israelis. We also do not fail to notice the readiness with which many Israelis claim Jew hatred in response to any criticism of Israel. This simply has the effect of devaluing the currency - I doubt that there is actually world wide trembling at the charge of anti-semitism and the longer Israel brings misery to Palestinians whilst claiming fear and victimhood, the less that trembling will be. In fact, its pretty much morphed into laughter. I'm sure that Levy understands this - and this is not the point of his article but I just wonder if Israelis in general actually understand that with each silly charge of self-hating Jews, anti-semitism, that those supportive of justice for Palestinians are just rolling their eyes or gazing off into the middle distance.
