Unlike other governments that stand in contravention of international law, those despotic regimes that make no pretense of being democracies, Israel really takes the cake. On the one hand it claims to be a great ally of the US, a dependable friend. It also makes claim of being a Western style secular democracy, unique in the ME. Wrong on both accounts. Israel stands out for its facile ability to agree to what the US is asking of it and then do just the opposite. What other nation, an ally, would get away with that? As for democracy that too is a misnomer. Israel is an ethnocracy where the defining factor in achieiving full citizenship and full acceptance in the public arena is based solely on religion and ethnic identity. Hardly a secular democracy.
