in being in America's position because being the sole super-power means having more enemies than friends. It does not want the "responsibility" for invading countries like Iraq and getting itself mired in the petty conflicts of what it sees as "barbarian" cultures. The same logic can be applied to Iran. They do not really crave Israel's destruction; they crave its respect. They want to be seen as a "big power" like Israel and one of way doing that is by becoming populists with the Arabs (whom the Iranians are not). Israel should embrace Iran's rise to prominence because it means that the Arab's will be trapped between a dominant Jewish Ashkazni state and a dominant Shiite Farsi state forcing them to divide. Of course, I believe such rational thinking is beyond the capability of the Israeli or American leadership, let alone their foolish people.
