Personally, I think Abbas is full of crap -- as is Fatah as a whole. The fact that he turned down Olmert's unprecedented peace offer in 2008 -- long before the latest manufactured huff and puff over houses in Zone E, as well as rope-a-doping the 10-month settlement freeze proves he cannot agree to any peace deal even if he wanted to because the real powers of the Palestinian movements would never allow it. However, Israel announcing these new settlement tenders was a big clumsy mistake at this time. It makes Israel look like the only real obstructionist. It would have been better to play along with Abbas, Ashwari and company for the time being and let them hoist themselves on their own petard using their own true intentions when it came time to actually agree to something substantive, just as they were faced with when Olmert offered 100% of Gaza, a re-division of Jerusalem, and 95% of the West Bank with land swaps making up the difference ... but an end once and for all to any and all further claims.
