gulf war 1 - america liberates kuwait and moves into iraq- iraq launches missiles at israel. America ASKS israel not to respond so as to preserve the multinational coalition, some of whom were arabs -israel does not respond to the iraqi missiles. the coalition is preserved. That war was about oil and specifically, kuwaiti and saudi oil. It had nothing to do with israel, yet israel was absorbing rocket blows and out of respect for the US, did not respond. the point being, there is no linkage, only muslim rage. The linkage the obama team is trying to make is both dangerous and wrong. It will only give the arabs another crutch to cling to... america supports israel because they believe in democracy, human rights, freedom of the press, freedom of speech. America supports all countries that have universally accepted norms of freedom and free society. If the arabs are angry over that, it's not israel's fault. Israel is a fact, both historically and in the present. American officials like petreus who allow the arabs the excuse to be angry because of israel are walking us and themselves down a slippery slope. remember, israelis weren't the ones dancing in the streets after 9/11. America is increasingly looking like fools with these cheap baseless simplifications. It smacks of racism and is more of the same from the obama administration.
