Re the first theatrical production which was put on at the arts center there - reportedly, "Piaf" - I've never seen the show myself but can guess what it was probably like. People can feel compassion for Piaf and like her singing (and according to a news article on the show, her grandmother was from the Middle East), yet, especially considering there are probably a lot of Muslims living in the area as well as religious Jews, wasn't it culturally insensitive to put on show like that, which probably goes against the cultural norms of much of the population in the area? A first production could have been something such as "Fiddler on the Roof", or a combined Jewish/Muslim choral performance of eg, traditional songs and music, or even a "Bollywood" type musical. In other words, something that would have been appropriate for people who live in the area -families and their children, rather than for secular solphisticates from out of town, probably.
