With polls ahead of Thursday’s mayoral election putting George Galloway on no more than 1%, we could be witnessing the welcome political demise of a malignant racist.19:43 02.05.16 | 0 comments
Involves disparaging a person about something which has nothing to do with the fundamental point of discussion. Thus arguing that someone is demeaning a movement by trivializing it is not an argument ad hominem. Zionism was a movement created in Western Europe 113 years ago and taken up by Eastern European Jews shortly after. The cause was Herzls perception that Jews could not live safely in Europe and had to make a Jewish Homeland in Palestine. This goal was achieved long ago. Thus the idea that a territorial aggressive, ideologically intolerant, and ruthlessly nationalistic mutation of Zionism is demeaning to the original cause is quite in order. The argument might be extended to include the idea that the Nationalist/Religious Zionists of today are a mirror image of the vicious and ruthless anti-Semites which forced Herzl to propose that a Jewish State was necessary.
