As a liberal American Jew who loves Israel more than anything, I too am worried about the right-wing trend Israel has been going down. I understand the realities Israel faces. I understand that anti-Semitism is still very prevalent and will probably never go away. But I also know that we can not let our enemies drag us down to their level. In order to ensure Israel's security, Israel needs allies, most importantly American Jews. We have stood up for Israel consistently. We have donated to Israel. We have used our influence to have America back Israel. But we need to see reciprocity. That means unilaterally stopping the settlements and the occupation. The return of "refugees" is absurd, but disengaging from the occupation and leaving the West Bank is what is necessary to maintain a Jewish homeland, while holding on to our humanitarian and Jewish values that keep us unified and strong.
