Here's a question: It's often repeated in these pages that if Abbas's moderate Fatah is not supported by gestures like removing roadblocks, making peace etc, Hamas will gain strength, the idea being that the peace camp has to show results. That makes a certain sense, until you ask why they would turn to Hamas instead. Why would any Palestinian think Hamas's means have achieved anything so far, or will achieve a meaningful peace in the foreseeable future? They would only turn to Hamas if they agreed with it's ideological basis, the elimination of Israel. So then supposedly what we have is a Palestinian population which wants a two state solution but can easily become ardent supporters of a political extremist movement. Doesn't make much sense to me.
