I am glad that Gideon is defending the supposedly hapless Amir, and explaining, rightly, the reasons for it. Frankly, I would consider it part of our Sfaradi "charm", that these things happen. It shows that he is as disingenuous as he is sincere in wanting to serve the country with the post that he has been offered. He wants to implement the reforms from the 'failures" of the war. What a burden this country has to be constantly on the alert in the 'Territories, and on the look-out for the next, G-d forbid, potential war, may it never happen, we wish it could be so. I think that short of trading prisoners which the gov't is about to do now, but was unwillng to do then, I feel that Peretz fought for me, as a matter of honor, that they were in the wrong, and had to be stood up to. Those boys died for a matter of principle. This too counts for something. I am deeply grateful and deeply sorry at their families' losses. But we cannot let ourselves to be pushed around. Lo nevosh.
