The US sees Hamas and Hizballah as targets in the "war on terror". But both organizations have LOCAL ambitions, not anti-West ambitions. Russia recently published the names of terrorist organizations. It did not inclued Hizballah nor Hamas! From the US point of view, Syria helps Hamas and Hizballah, therefore they are also supporters of int'l terror and there should be no discussions with them. The fact that Syria supports these two because they fight against the common enemy Israel, does not occur to the Bushmen. Listening to Condi, and her Undersecretary N. Burns (a pretty face with no brain, apparently), the goal of the war must be to decimate Hizballah. They are "enemies of democracy", after all. How about the Iraq experience with democracy? how about letting it evolve? Too bad that the attempt to prolong the war has failed because of Qanna. Now Hizballah is stronger than before, and because a security strip was not occupied and cleansed of Hizballah, we will have no gains. Regarding Syria, if Israel makes peace with Syria then Hizballah is gone. This way you kill 2 birds of terror. But of course the US views the Syrian regime as terroristic in its own right, so can?t talk to them.
