Because of 9/11, the muslims are suffering. There is also a debate about illegal immigration. There is a whole lot of opportunity for bigots to come out of the woodwork. Throughout history, different groups have been the victim of prejudice in america, including the Jews. American Indians, Japanese-Americans, Italians, Germans, Chinese, new immigrants, Polish people, illegal immigrants, Catholic people and others. Each group has its own story. You have to commend people like Mayor Bloomberg who get it right. Billy Graham spoke out against islamophobia too. A law professor at Loyola in Chicago and expert on the lst amendment was a great person. It is a good thing that this is being discussed in Haaretz, and it may go on for a long time, and some kind of closure will have to happen. It is the clash of civilizations that only tolerance and moderation will solve. We could also live in the police state of Orwell's 1984.
