The settler enterprise is doomed to cause endless friction and will most likely fail. To successfully annex territory, you need overwhelming power and supportive or at least indifferent world opinion. For example, the overwhelming power of the Soviets in Eastern Europe after WWII allowed for annexations of Poland and Germany which today are accepted borders, and overwhelming U.S. power allowed for annexation of much of Mexico. Germany, on the other hand, annexed Alsace and part of Lorainne but could not sustain it. They defeated France in 1871 and inflicted a humiliating peace , but left it a country capable of getting allies and seeking revanche. The settlers are in a similar position. They have enough power temporarily to inflict de facto annexation but not enough power to sustain it over the long term because the geopolitics of the area will always prevent them from utterly destroying either the Palastinains or the surrounding countries.. The settlers will create unending hostility which might have been averted by a more generous policy, and they will power revanche for generations. The settlers in their arrogance forget the basic lesson that you don't stir up the hornets nest unless you have the capacity and intention of killing the hornets.
