Foreign government intervention to internal affairs is something that opposes basic democracy, not support it, even when it comes as just financial help. Remember: both Pinochet and Taliban mentioned above are results of such a wise or unwise US intervention. Many think that current American behavior in Afghanistan or Iraq depress basic human rights there, but I hardly believe that there is one NGO in US that receives money from Iranian, Russian, Pakistan or Saudian governments or even are originated by their money. We are free country and NGO are not oppressed here at all. If they are so righteous, they can raise enough money from other righteous people in Israel (or Western world). Otherwise they just convert to being agents of foreign influence in eyes of many people.

Israel's angry, bitter left must reclaim the language of hope

We leftists whine and complain, we only talk about how bleak and hopeless life is in Israel. We alienate all those Israelis whose support we need to bring political change.
