Israel like it or not has decided that its national identity is and always was a democratic & jewish state. This pledge means that you recognize what the national identity is and you swear loyalty to the state in its chosen form. Not recognizing Israels right to exist as a jewish state won't change the reality and prehaps forcing them to accept in a pledge of loyalty that Israel is a jewish state it will help make them come to terms with reality. It would be especially useful if the pledge of loyalty to take seats in the Knesset changes to something along this line then the likes of Tibi would have to on the record say he pledges loyalty to Israel as a jewish state. This reformed pledge might be just whats needed to make the arabs accept reality instead of living in their own little bubble where Israel isn't a jewish state and if they deny it then they can make that reality go away. There is nothing wrong at all with this pledge because we are still asking them to swear loyalty to the state not the jewish people we are just defining the state and what it defines itself as. This government has introduced some refreshing non politically correct legislation which is long overdue but no previous government had the courage to risk proposing it.
