Baskin has given his all to building trust with moderate Gazan Palestinian leaders interested in avoiding any more bloodshed. I imagine that besides countless hours, countless amounts of his own personal savings have gone into long years of effort. Israeli officials have used him when they deemed it productive. His government now seems to have found him very useful indeed and betrayed him, murdering a man who, despite having lost a son and a brother in an Israeli strike in 2004, lucidly wanted no more violence on either side.
