The basic point made in this article is absolutely correct. Of course analysis of the Toulouse murders must not avoid the inescapable conclusion that Merah horrifically murdered innocent Jews simply because they were Jews. But I wonder if the argument is particularly helped by the article's own airbrushing out of Merah's innocent Muslim and Christian victims? Except for an oblique reference to Tariq Ramadan's article, a reader of this article would think that Merah was motivated solely by anti-semitism and that Jews were the sole victims. "Yet this noble desire cannot mask the fact that this man’s victims were not random. They were Jews. " No Joel: they were Jews and Christian and Muslim. And French Jews and Christians and Muslims mourned together and marched together in outrage at Merah's hate-filled ideology which has no link with any true religion.
