The Haredi are living in a world that is of there own making. At no other time in history was it acceptable for one to sit and study Talmud all day and do nothing else. it says so in the Talmud. It is every parents duty to not only teach there child Torah, but also a trade. Back in the Shtel, Jews were forced not to work because of crippling unemployment and impoverishment - it wasn't a choice, it was forced on them by the Czar. If anything, it should be easier to work in Israel. I'm sympathetic to those who want to stay Torah observant and work, it's not always easy, especially here in the diaspora. Bust in Israel, there should be no problem not working on Saturday, or finding kosher food, or stopping to pray, or do any of those things that an observant Jew needs to do. They need to get out of the Shtel, and they can do that while still being true to themselves and Judaism.
