Mr. Srassler who has spent years investigating 'antisemitism' abroad in minute detail has now turned his attention to a new kind of 'antisemitism' in reverse- that by the fundamentalist elite caste of the Judea (and Samaria) sttlers against anyone who challenges their world view, policies and agenda. Strassler's piece should surprise no one who had read Akive Eldar's book 'Masters of the Land' (published last year in Hebrew as 'Adonei Ha'aretz) telling chapter and verse, with plenty footnotes ,the history of the settlement enterprise and its relentless efforts to control the national agenda. It is clear that at every step of implementation, the Israeli govrnments have aided and abetted in creating that monster. It is also very clear that it is only an Israeli govenment present and/or future that will be able to undo the damage. Inability or unwillingness to take the necessary steps .and many include financial measures, will hasten the loomoing showdown between Israelis and settlers.
