I hate to admit it, but this lunatic of a politician is entirely right in this one. There are two conditions for entering into negotiations: Authority and mutual recognition. As a matter of fact, the Palestinians fulfil neither as long as Hamas and Fatah have not reconciled their positions and and as long as Hamas fails to recognise Israel's right to exist. I strongly oppose our occupation of Palestian land and I do believe that any final settlemend would have to include East Jerusalem as a Palestinian capital. Yet the Russians are lending legitimacy to Hamas and thus strengthening their position, only for the sake of Iranian trade relations and in order to show some muscle towards the US. This might be in their short-term interest, but a legitimate and strong Hamas is definitely a major obstacle to peace in the middle east.
