While the dodgers attend Yishivot, universities and vocational training, or embark on careers or start families, IDF personnel are serving their country, often under extremely stressful and dangerous conditions. An IDF officer, who serves a minimum of four years, wanting to become a pharmicist, will start his four-year university course when people his age who are exempt from the draft have already qualified. Why should these veterans not, caeteris paribus, benefit from a modicum of affirmative action?
