65-year-old from local kibbutz suffers moderate wounds after being stabbed in the neck in southern Israel; manhunt underway for suspected assailant.21:04 06.02.16 | 0 comments
Catholic-Jewish relations improved dramatically starting with Pope John XXIII and actually became warm under John Paul II. Everywhere, on local levels, these relations are pretty strong. I suspect that Pius XII as a Christian, will have died believeing that he would be judged by God. It's the Roman Catholics who choose and make saints. Abe Foxman makes waves; big ones; and sometimes that is critical. If, for example, there's wholesale Jewish cemetery vandalism and hate messages all over a country where the church is strong and the Chutch does not speak out, then Foxman can rightly point out their silence. But in a case like this, it is inapproriate; just as it was when he tried to stop "The Passion of the Christ" without ever having seen it. That film caused no increase in anti-Semitism and, if anything, actually seems to have renewed the commitment of love and compassion among Christians.
