As a Palestinian I am happy to read this article. Human suffering should appall us all and draw our sharpest reaction no matter who the perpetrator and the victim are. Israeli should recognize Palestinian suffering and the heavy price they paid for the establishment of Israel and still pay for the continuation its occupation. I would argue that Israel actually need, not only should, admit and take responsibility of what it did to the Palestinians. It needs to do so because it is right and paves the way to real peace. More importantly, maybe, it will help it overcome the fallacy of divine right on the land and the messianic element underlying its basis. Israelis needed it so that they can see themselves as normal people entitled to celebrate their human triumphs and reap their benefits but are obliged to admit their wrongs and crimes and take responsibility for them. They need to do so not only to feel normal but also to become normal.
