and something serious entails the offers which former PM Ehud Olmert's peace plan (2007-2008) suggested or an extensive halt to settlement construction in all the West Bank as the Road Map peace plan stipulated (2004). For Israel, either one of those options is much better than facing the U.N. ordeal with the Palestinians again, because the whole premise of achieving a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians is based on a diplomatic negotiated process in determining the territorial boundaries between the two states. The U.N. cannot undertake this initiative directly without cooperation from both parties.
