We should all be thankful to Abbas for discovering a diplomatic way to break the logjam with Israel. Up to now, it was in Israeli right-wing interest to stall peace talks with the Palestinians because they could expect to settle more and more of the West Bank to the point that a division of the land will become impossible. By going to the UN, Abbas is going to eliminate this incentive. Once the UN recognizes Palestine as a state, it will rush to become a member of the ICC (International Criminal Court) and then report every Israeli leader involved in settlement activity as war criminal. I assume such an indictment will be issued by the ICC. This will bring the settlement enterprise to its bitter end. After that, there will be peace talks. No need for another Yom Kippur War. Thank you, President Abbas. You deserve a Nobel Peace Prize just for this discovery.
