When it comes to the peace process he is being hardline, stubborn and uncompromising just like Arafat was which is what made it so hard to do any kind of deal with him. He has started allocating jobs to his own yes men just like Arafat did. Rami Hamdallah resigned because Abbas was giving the jobs jobs the PM was supposed to do to his yes men because just like Arafat Abbas wanted to control everything himself and the job of the PM was just for image as far as he was concerned. Its this same reason that Abbas resigned as Arafats PM. Presidential elections were supposed to have been held 3 years ago but Abbas decided to put them on hold indefinitely. The man has just been around to long and as long as nobody is demanding he go at home or abroad he wont. His new hardman attitude goes down well on the streets and abroad everybody sees him as the moderate so don't rock the boat and until he is forced out and he is replaced by somebody who is both moderate and a realist ( not Bargouti ) then there will probably be no progress. Obama who was 100% backing Abbas in 2008 is now fed up with him and sees him as the obstacle to talks not Bibi.
