If Israel's nukes were fueling an arms race then Egypt would have continued to pursue nuclear weapons in the 1970s. If Israel nukes are the motivation for chemical weapons, why was it only after Saddam started using US supplied chemical weapons in the 1980s that Syria and Iran took an interest in developing them? The deep, dark, ugly and final fact of nuclear weapons is simple. In 1945 the US used them because only the US had them. Japan had started the war, we had built the bomb, they had none, and we were going to use it. After 1949 NO nation could use nuclear weapons without fear of the consequences - this includes Israel. What are those consequences? 1. If an opponent or an ally of an opponent has them, you can not use them. 2. If you use them you will be an international pariah. Thus the simple fact is that nukes are weapons which have only one real use. They ensure you will not be the only loser.
