the conflict can only be ended by a strong US president. these talks are waste of time because omert will not keep his or sharon's word about removing the outposts. even barak appears to be too weak to head back and finish off oslo. this is just the nature of israeli politics. note shamir who ate nails and dynamite for breakfast was bullied into accepting madrid. bush is confused, ineffective and waiting for the end of his disasterous presidency. it has been disasterous for israel. it is quiet possible that the 2 state solution is now past and the israeli policy is to keep the occupation and manage the violence for now. the future is more violence, more hatred, more boycotts etc. note that annexation is so scary that no serious politicians are advocating it,except for hammas. however the end may be a bi-national state a the future of jews would be bleak. jews are survivors and adapt except in their own land as our disasterous ancient shows us.
