Lebanon is afraid to rid itself of the antiquated clans of the past and thats why it doesnt rid itself of the militant group.Lebanon is not a democracy.Countries who are democracy fought for just that and cleared out any totalitarian regimes, but Lebanon who are quick to say they are not arab are afraid to let go of arabism. Israel is a country under duress. Its Supreme Court and other institutions are constantly trying to find that balance between democracy and security. At the base, although distnctively a Jewish State it IS a democracy. It showed that in its handling of the settlers and it would go further if the borders were safe so the silent majority in Israel could think mostly about normal issues. Lebanon is not like that.It totters on democracy ,afraid of committing to it.If the government is not strong enough then call in OTHER democratoc countries to help tackle Hizbullah. But no,that would be disloyal.
