America has provided money, weapons, and political cover for Israel for many years. America was first to join the boycott of Gaza called by Israel to punish the Gazans for voting for Hamas in the election. America has watched and done nothing for decades as Israel built "settlements" outside their borders which America pretended to oppose. Now America says that Abbas must rush to direct peace talks which Israel also seems enthusiastic about. Can you blame Abbas for resisting? Whos friend is America anyway. Friendship with Israel and the Palestinians is a zero sum proposition. To whatever degree you favor one side, you detract from the other side. America seems to favor Israel over the Palestinians on about a 90 : 10 ratio. Both Israel and the Palestinians are unhappy with those numbers. Israel has said that making peace was between Israel and the Palestinians so nobody else should interfere. What then is America pushing the Palestinians for? Why is Netanyahu not telling Obama to but out? The answer is that Netanyahu feels that Israel has something to gain by Obamas participation. Can you blame Abbas for resisting?
