There is a strong faction in Israeli society that feels Israel's best strategy is to drive wedges between Christians/Jews and Muslims. That was the basis of neocon philosophy and it continues. However it is a tragically failed strategy that ultimately isolates Israel. The tactic of engaging groups like Hamas will always be easily sabotaged from within until those who see a benefit in alienating Christians/Jews from Muslims understand that they are not helping the state of Israel.
