'The story here is not the lesser story about which the court on Wednesday reached a perfectly reasonable verdict.' Yes but no way was the verdict 'perfectly reasonable' - nobody ( that is who wasn't exposed to the more sophisticated arguments of Lieberman's high class lawyers) believes he didn't know what the ambassador was giving him in the hotel room in Belarus, that he didn't look at it (before indeed getting rid of it by flushing down the toilet) and that his subsequent appointment to Latvia was an innocent mistake by a very busy man who forgot to inform the committee (shades of Olmert not knowing where his plane tickets were coming from) and that on this particular occasion Danny Aylon was lying. Worst of all, his lawyers also managed to get the court in its verdict to repeat after them the mantra that maybe Lieberman isn't 100% ethical but it's not criminal (and if it's not criminal than he's fit for public life which as we all know isn't 100% ethical)
