Yael Patir, Israel director of the left-leaning U.S. Jewish body, sat down with Haaretz to talk about Trump, the gap between U.S. and Israeli Jews, and the growing anger at the Israeli peace camp. Though she concedes boycott efforts by some on the left have a negative effect, she rejects calls to keep peace efforts local.01:12 01.05.16 | 4 comments
The appointment of a Moslem to the Israeli government is a sign of a confident and maturing nation. I don't know the circumstances of this appointment, but drawing from all of a nation's citizens for leadership is important. JFK's election didn't undermine the Protestant majority in the US. Majadele as a minister will not undermine Israel's Jewish nature either. It will further the conhesiveness of all its citizens. It's an important step, and for once Peretz has done something appropriate.
