Perhaps Ari Shavit lacks the courage to say it; perhaps he still holds on to the hope that it really isn't true -- but the truth is, that the hawkish, conservative-voting, Fox News-watching brainwashed anit-intellectual right-winger and the "enlightened" leftist are the exact same political animal. Pseudo-intellectuals, holding on to archaic concepts such as 'enlightement', 'post modernism', 'orientalism' and myriad other empty place-holders for the shallow, one-sided, narrow-sighted drivel that these people, who dub themselves "The Left", produce. Propped up against such empty ideas, these people are as hoplessly divorced from reality as their politically anti-podean arch-nemeses on the right. And as such, they entirely lack a virtue that garners no respect anymore: Intellectual Integrity. What is truely tragic, though, is that these people refer to themsleves as "libarals" -- as the intellectual offspring of the great Liberal thinkers of the 19th Century, who advocated a "free marketplace of ideas" as a tool for human betterment. Yet with all Intellectual Integrity lost, nowadays this marketplace resembles more of a mud-fight, where no one actually cares about the filth they toss into the air -- so long as it hits someone in the face. Rant aside, it's hard to understand why we are constantly so surprised about the sad state the world is in.

How the bagel went from shtetls to haute cuisine
