When did the Arab population come to this realization? Probably much later, since it was not their problem. So what does Avineri imagine? That the Arabs would be willing to have the Jewish population in Palestine increase dramatically, resulting in their own loss of their right to a homeland, and just because of what they believed to have been pogroms against the Jews in Europe (if they even knew about them)? Avineri is an old man. He sounds as if he is losing his mind,
