The present Israeli government acts in a deeply inconsistent way. It attempts to PRIVATIZE every government service, including welfare and prison services, and turn the economic system into a no-holds-barred capitalism. On the other hand, it attacks PRIVATE human rights organizations, legitimizing only government supported ones. This inconsistency is strange, to say the least, especially in view of the standards of the Land of Capitalism, the United States, where human rights reign supreme. Of course, Netanyahu is merely an imitator of the economic system he observed as a teenager but never understood in depth, including the necessity to counter-balance the capitalist urges by regulations that would guarantee social fairness. Other than Likud, the coalition partners are rather fond of government, non-private help. The Haredim require their government-issued daily bread, the Russian who are not the most well-off also want government aid, and the settlers want free land and protection by the IDF. But all these groups are united with Likud in their anti-Arab sentiments. The Left opposes this and becomes public enemy number one. We have seen such alliances before, but they were more justified. The US and Britain made an alliance with the Soviets against Nazi Germany. This alliance was based on a positive uniting principle, a war against the enemy of civilization. What is the Israeli coalition based on? The principle of robbing Palestinians?
