Many women, killed by partners, had fled to shelters but went home when support ended.09:23 14.02.16 | 0 comments
Sorry to disappoint you Maria. I was 16 years old in 1948 and was thrilled when the state of Israel came into existence. My father raised thousands of dollars for what he was told by 2 members of the Yishuv would be a bi-national state. He was later to be disillusioned. I began to learn what really happened when a member of my husband's family told me that in 1948 as a member of the Haganah he helped to forcibly remove a village of peaceful Arabs and sent them fleeing into Lebanon. The "cleansed" land became a kibbutz. Later I realized that this action was against every ideal with which I had been raised and decided that it was wrong that I could "return" but the people who had been pushed from their homes could not. I was raised with Jewish history and Jewish values and it is because of my Jewish values that I protest against the oppression of another people. There are more Jews than you know who feel exactly as I do.
