Perhaps the Antipodean opposition to Israeli brutality towards the Palestinians is that we have learned something from our history, and we see that Israel hasn't. Treating other people with contempt is something Jews should not be doing considering their history of being on the receiving end of contempt and oppression, but in these columns some of us see a deplorable 18th century colonial arrogance in Israeli attitudes. New Zealand has had universal adult suffrage since about 1895, so we do know what we're talking about.
