They can do mechanised, mobile warfare, where tanks and aircraft achieve battlefield superiority. They have little training or experience in Fighting in Built-up Areas (Fibua), for which you need well trained professional troops. Watch the US Marines and Brits doing their CQB stuff in these Afghan villages, that is high-risk, high-valour and highly-effective. Up against insurgents in urban areas, who shoot and scoot, is no place for heavy direct or indirect firepower as in Cast Lead. It only kills civilians, commits war crimes and demolishes property, to minimal military advantage. But Israel does not have the training to do it any other way - and the politicians want a cheap victory without losses, even at the price of war crime charges. The primary target can never be the insurgents' arms dump or tunnels. They restock and rebuild a week later. The target can only be the enemy fighters and leaders - who the IDF won't fight too energetically. Defeat beckons.
